I created this piece for the Spring 2023 Art Show at Jessup. The theme of the show was "Beauty in the Ordinary" so I decided to paint something that is part of my everyday life.

The image is based on a photo I had taken in the prayer chapel on campus at Jessup. The way the light reflected on the wall really captured my attention and I thought it was a great example of beauty in the ordinary. I've had a lot of sweet moments in the prayer chapel reading my Bible, praying, and singing with friends, so this piece represents those experiences of community and God's presence things that fill my life with light and joy.
When I first started this painting, I intended to paint it in acrylic paints, but after I tried that, I decided that I wanted to see how it would look in oils. I think the glowing look was rendered much better with the oil paints, so I'm glad I had the time to make that switch.
